Burrum Biodynamics is a family-run biodynamic farm nestled in the rich agricultural lands of Queensland, Australia. We grow certified organic and biodynamic lentils, spelt, and ancient grains — food that is as good for the earth as it is for the people who eat it.
The Beginning
The journey began when Steve, driven by a deep concern for food quality and environmental health, started transitioning the family farm to biodynamic practices. Inspired by Rudolf Steiner's philosophy of farming in harmony with the cosmos, Steve began learning, experimenting, and nurturing the land.
The farm sits in Burrum, Queensland — a region blessed with fertile soils and a climate perfectly suited for growing high-quality pulses and ancient grains. What started as a personal commitment grew into a thriving enterprise built on trust, transparency, and exceptional food.
The Demeter Certification
Achieving Demeter Biodynamic certification (No. 729) was a landmark moment for Burrum Biodynamics. Demeter is the world's oldest and most rigorous ecological certification, going far beyond organic standards. It recognises farms that treat their land as a living, self-sustaining organism.
Our certification confirms that every crop we grow is produced without synthetic chemicals, using biodynamic preparations to activate soil biology, cover cropping to build fertility naturally, and careful attention to lunar and cosmic rhythms.
Our Farming Philosophy
At Burrum Biodynamics, we believe the health of our food begins with the health of our soil. We apply biodynamic preparations — herbal and mineral compounds that stimulate microbial life and soil structure. Our multi-species cover crops fix nitrogen naturally, suppress weeds, and attract beneficial insects.
We use minimum tillage techniques to preserve soil structure, and we never use water-soluble fertilizers or synthetic pesticides. The result is food that is genuinely clean, dense in nutrients, and produced in a way that leaves the land better than we found it.
